Tian Chua: Hopes EC Does Not ‘Forget’ to Shake the Indelible Ink Sufficiently

SHAH ALAM, 7 Feb: The Election Commission (EC) has been reminded for the controversy that happened in the 13th General Election (GE13) last year to not repeat in the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) By-Election.

This includes the controversy of using indelible ink that is not permanent, phantom voters, sudden power failure when the counting of votes was being performed which created chaos and caused the public to lose confidence in the commission.

The Vice President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Tian Chua, said that the Ec should learn and improve a lot of things from the various controversies that occurred in the GE13 which was said to happen with a lot of fraud.

“It has been nine months since the GE13 and it has been over three months since the last by-election in Sungai Limau. The EC has had enough time to repair flaws such as the indelible ink and I hope that the EC does not ‘forget’ to shake the ink sufficiently this time.

“Similarly with the phantom and other issues that has not been resolved although the EC has had experience in conducting general elections 13 times and countless times for by-elections,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini recently.

He said that the EC, as an independent body, needs to prove that they are not involved with political influence as claimed by the public.

“Unfortunately, until now, the EC is not what is expected. We only have the EC and we hope that the body will meet its responsibilities in upholding another democratic movement in the country. But the people needs to question a lot of things, the re-delineation, their not neutral actions during campaigns and polling day, closing their eyes regarding the usage of government machinery and corruption,” he said.

The GE13 was recorded as the most controversial in history, including the indelible ink, voters believed to be foreigners, power failure during the ballot counting, candidate agents not being permitted to be in halls during the ballot counting, not supplying Form 14, results announced being different from Form 14 and other controversies.

On the issue of the indelible ink, previously the EC gave the excuse that the ink was not shaken sufficiently, causing the ink to come off from the finger by just using dish washing liquid.
