CM: Selangor Builds Over 2,000 Affordable Housing Units, Selangorku Homes

SHAH ALAM, 8 Feb: The Selangor Government will begin the Affordable Housing Project, or the Selangorku Homes, to provide an opportunity to the people of this state, especially those with low to medium income, to earn their own homes.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the Groundbreaking Ceremony for this pilot project will be held on 22 February and construction is expected to commence within six months later, after the development approval and the appointment of contractor is settled.

.

He said that the Selangorku Homes will be constructed on a portion of land owned by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI), with an area of 28 hectares at Sungai Sering, Hulu Klang, as the demand for affordable housing is very high in the area.

Over 2,000 housing units will be built through this pilot programme consisting of three types of unit areas; 800 square feet, 900 square feet and 1,000 square feet.

“The Selangorku Homes Pilot Project consists of eight blocks which will be built in four phases and is expected to be fully completed in six and a half years.

“The overall cost of the Selangorku Homes Pilot Project is expected to amount to RM591 million, including the cost of constructing roads, upgrading the surau into a mosque, building sewage systems and upgrading plumbing,” said Abdul Khalid in a press statement.

He said that the construction of the Selangorku Homes will adopt the Industrial Building System (Pre-Fabricated – IBS) to expedite the construction period compared to conventional methods.

This project is part of the 5,000 affordable housing units using the pre-fabricated method which are targeted to be built in 5 years, until 2018, from the overall 35,000 units targeted.

“The Selangor Government has allocated RM100 million using state cash reserves to implement this project, as announced in the Budget 2014.

“The provisions are a revolving fund to build more affordable homes for the people of Selangor,” he said.

Abdul Khalid said that the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) will continue to fulfill their social responsibility by building affordable homes through the Selangor State Dream Home Ownership Programme or IDAMAN PKNS.

He said that the affordable housing project that has been completed by PKNS is the one at Bukit Botak in Selayang and Section 3 in Bandar Baru Bangi, while several other projects are in the implementation and planning stage.

“The Affordable Housing Project is the result of austerity policies and prudent spending practiced by the Selangor Government, and this savings are being redistributed to the people, in line with the State Revenue For The People agenda,” he said.
