Anwar: PKR Welcomes Waytha’s Resignation

SHAH ALAM, 9 Feb: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) welcomes the resignation of the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, P Waytha Moorthy, because he and the central government have no intention in helping the Indian community in this country.

The PKR Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Hindraf group and BN before the 13th General Election was only a gimmick.

He said that BN was never sincere in solving the socio-economic problems of the community.

“We welcome his resignation and hope that he will work for the people and the poor,” he said in a press statement in Puchong today.

Waytha is the Chairman of Hindraf and resigned from the Cabinet after expressing disappointment with the refusal from the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to address the problems of the Indian community; which include poverty, crime, youth and education.

Quoting the words of the Hindraf Secretary, P Ramesh, The Star reported Waytha’s resignation as deputy minister, effective 10 February.

Ramesh said that the central committee unanimously decided for Waytha to resign because the government was deliberately delaying promises to help the Indian community.

Ramesh said that Hindraf wants to remain loyal to the poor in the society.

“We did the most unthinkable – signing a pact with our one-time nemesis, entirely in the interest of the Malaysian Indian poor and in the honest belief that Barisan Nasional will fulfil its promises.

“We have given up hope of that happening, after eight months of trying,” he said.
