Selangor Continues to ‘Destroy’ Dengue Plague

SHAH ALAM, 13 Feb: The State Government will mobilise the ‘Ayuh Gempur Ades Khas’ (Let’s Destroy Aedes) in Kajang to eradicate mosquito breeding in the area, which a hot-spot in Selangor.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Health, Entrepreneur Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the implementation of the campaign, which is scheduled to take place on 2 March, is aimed at preventing the spread of dengue.

She said that the move to choose Kajang is because it also coincides with the Kajang by-election which will take place next month, while taking into account the influx of thousands of civilians from all corners of the country.

“We are organising this prevention campaign to protect the local’s health and safety.

“We also do not want the people who come here on duty as election officers, regardless of party, to return to their state carrying with them dengue from Kajang,” she said in the Exco Meeting press conference.

At the same time, she said that the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), in collaboration with several other Local Authorities, have identified localities of the breeding of Aedes mosquito around Kajang.

What we found from the visit was that there are a lot of construction actively going on in Kajang, including the construction of the urban transport system and the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).

“These sites are seen as ideal Aedes mosquito breeding hot-spots in the area.

“MPKj will identify and closely monitor these construction sites, in addition to notices or cleaning directives being given to ensure that the locality is in good condition and free from the breeding of Aedes mosquito,” she said.

As of 8 February, the Hulu Langat District recorded the second highest number of Dengue cases, with 1784 cases after the Petaling District; 2,738 cases.
