PKR: Umno ‘Licks Own Spit’ Since They Started Campaigning in Kajang

KAJANG, 17 Feb: Over a week ago, Umno slammed PKR of beginning the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election campaign outside the campaign period. Finally, Umno needs to ‘lick their own spit’ when they have started to do the same.

PKR Secretary-General, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution, said that the previous words of Umno are clearly no longer relevant following the action of the Umno Youth Chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, of conducting a house-to-house campaign yesterday.

He said that Khairy’s actions prove that there is no harm for a political party to conduct campaigns to get closed to the people even before the nomination day.

“So there is no longer the issue of campaigning because Khairy has personally gone to the ground to campaign for Umno and I welcome this.

“However, PKR will leave Umno to their strategies while we focus on winning, thus strengthening Selangor before going on the Putrajaya,” he said in a press conference at the Oriental Crystal Hotel today.

At the same time, Saifuddin also questioned Khairy’s move of vigorously expressing support for the former Minister of Law, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, who expressed his desire to contest in the Kajang by-election as an independent candidate.

“Suddenly, Khairy completely forgot the anti-Umno attitude often played by Zaid, a former Umno member and also a former PKR member, whose mission in the Kajang by-election is to maintain Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Chief Minister.

“Doesn’t it seem strange? The question is whether Umno is behind Zaid to contest in Kajang.

“If so, I challenge Umno to place their own candidate instead of sending in other people” he said.

Replying another question, Saifuddin dismissed the claims of a newspaper that Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim refused to sign an undated letter of resignation to give way to Anwar Ibrahim to become Chief Minister.

“It is all nonsense. Reliable sources would only be the highest leadership of PKR and not anonymous sources,” he said.
