KLANG, 17 Feb: In line with efforts to make ‘Selangor a Safe City’, the State Government has taken the initiative to install 414 Closed Circuit Camera Systems (CCTV) and 22 control rooms in 11 Local Authorities in Selangor.
The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the State Government has allocated RM6 million a year for the implementation of the CCTV system via hire purchase.
He said that the State Government believes that with the addition of the CCTVs, the security situation will be controlled with better monitoring.
“The installation is done via hire purchase. It is for 20 years.
“So, as much as RM500,000 a month has been allocated, making it RM6 million a year,” he said in a press conference after the launching at the Hamzah Hall here at the Klang Municipal Council.
Abdul Khalid hopes that with these CCTVs, incidents of street crime can be prevented and that it would help Local Authorities in monitoring daily activities such as traffic management, vendor activities and cleanliness.
“I also urge Local Authorities and the police to cooperate and provide an efficient working team and be responsible in monitoring their respective CCTV control rooms,” he said.
As many as 60 CCTVs were installed in the areas of the Petaling Jaya City Council, the Klang Municipal Council and the Kajang Municipal Council.
Meanwhile, 50 CCTVs have been installed in the areas of the Shah Alam City Council, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council, the Selayang Municipal Council and the Sepang Municipal Council.
In addition, eight CCTV units have been installed in the areas of the Kuala Selangor District Council, the Hulu Selangor District Council and the Sabak Bernam District Council.
Meanwhile, 10 CCTV units have been installed in the areas under the Kuala Langat District Council.
The 414 CCTVs are in addition to the CCTVs installed by the Central Government, a total of 152 units, in 2010.
The CCTVs involved have the best quality by using fibre optics which is capable of providing clear visual in the day time and can monitor image movement in the night even with minimal light.
The system also has the latest features with the ability of displaying images with high resolution and clear on the screen display in the control rooms.
In addition, the CCTVs are capable of making 360 degree turns and video recording for 45 consecutive days.
It is also equipped with speakers at poles so that Local Authorities or the police can make announcements when required.
