SAMM: Stay Away from Incitement Causing Divide in Racial Harmony

SHAH ALAM, 19 Feb: Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM) has strongly condemned continued efforts by Umno in deliberately playing up racial sentiments by taking advantage of issues that are not at all related.

The SAMM Propaganda Director, Edy Noor Reduan, said that Umno’s actions also showed that the party is increasingly weak, by willing to cause racial unrest.

He said that the responses of Umno supporters who demonstrated with machetes and incitement clearly indicate attempts to create racial hatred.

“For example, the ‘kangkung’ (water spinach) demonstration which highlighted the weaknesses of a Prime Minister has nothing to do with racial and religious contempt. The same goes to the video produced by the Member of Parliament for Seputeh, Teresa Kok.

“Never mind, the unity pervaded well by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will certainly ensure that the people do not fall for the racism trick, like how Teresa Kok has been attempted to be made into a ‘scapegoat’,” he said in a statement.

Elaborating, Edy urged skilled people to re-publish the video produced by Teresa Kok with Malay subtitles.

“It is important for all parties to understand that the political satire featured has no element of contempt towards other religions and race, especially Islam and Malays.

“After all, what is wrong for the government’s shortcomings to be highlighted in the form of satire, as long as the government is still arrogant to not admit their weaknesses,” he said.

Meanwhile, Edy strongly condemned the act of splashing chicken carcasses and red paint on Teresa Kok’s office, believed to frighten the Vice President of DAP into making an apology.

“SAMM insists that Teresa should not give in to this pressure because the people, who are united, will maintain national harmony.

“Only a handful of the ‘sick; will want to see unrest between races happen,” he said.
