CM: Water Scheduling Across Selangor, Ensure Continuous Supply

SHAH ALAM, 24 Feb: The water rescheduling across Selangor will be implemented from tomorrow to ensure continuous water supply in the state, which is divided into two zones.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the water scheduling involves a rotation of two days of water and two days without water per zone.

He said that the scheduling is more focused on areas affected by the temporary closure of the dams due to recent contamination.

“Starting tomorrow, each water meter holder will receive water on a scheduled basis; two days the house will receive water and two days it would not, and this schedule will be carried out on rotation.

“This water scheduling will continue as the dams in the state are not used much and water can be stored for the next two months,” said Abdul Khalid when met by reporters after attending the State Government Monthly Assembly.

Abdul Khalid said that the scheduling is expected to end in March, after consistent rainfall and capacity in state reservoirs increase.

“This is better than not having water. The problem of low pressure can be overcome this way.

“We will issue schedules according to zones. We will focus on areas that are affected by the recent closure of the dams due to contamination,” he said.

Previously, unscheduled water supply disruptions occurred in some areas in Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat, causing water outage in about 27,000 houses, because the Cheras Batu 11 Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the Bukit Tampoi WTP is still closed since 28 January due to high ammonia contamination in Sungai Langat.

At the same time, some areas in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, involving 75,000 homes, have also experienced water outages and low pressure recently due to the sharp increase in demand following the dry and hot weather, as well as the lack of rain.
