CM and PM Sign Selangor Water Restructuring MOU

PUTRAJAYA, 26 Feb: Today, the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government to enable Selangor to take over the four water concessionaires in the state with the RM2 billion in funds being pumped in to acquire the shares of the concessionaires.

The MOU regarding the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor was signed at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya.

The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, representing the Federal Government, while the Selangor State Government was represented by its Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, witnessed the historic moment.

Among the contents of the agreement includes that the state, led by Pakatan Rakyat (PR), will allow Putrajaya to continue the construction of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant.

“Alhamdulillah, the Selangor water restructuring has finally come to pass. Special thanks to the Minister of KETTHA for their cooperation,” said Abdul Khalid.

Apart from that, the Selangor Government will also provide RM9.65 in compensation to the four water concessionaires in Selangor.

As a result of the acquisition, a water consortium to manage the water industry in Selangor will be created under the supervision of Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB).

The Selangor Government expects the acquisition of the concessionaires to be completed in three months.
