MBSA Intensifies Efforts to Curb Dengue Epidemic

SHAH ALAM, 26 Feb: Since the beginning of this year, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has continuously taken proactive measures in addressing the increase in dengue cases.

It’s Deputy Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad, said that until 22 February, MBSA has actively monitored and held inspections at 13,857 premises.

He said that in the same period, MBSA also conducted 155,963 fogging at areas with residential homes and shophouses.

“From the results of this inspection, MBSA also issued 91 compounds under the Local Government Act 1976 and this offense carried a compound of RM500 for breeding larvae.

“Efforts to address this dengue problem are in line with the government’s call and order to ensure breeding places of Aedes mosquito are eliminated, thus helping to control dengue cases,” he said in a statement.

Shahrin said that apart from monitoring, inspection and fogging at residential premises are also carried out, and MBSA is also working with schools under the Let’s Destroy Dengue Programme, gotong-royong activities and dialogues with residents.

“MBSA is very serious in addressing this dengue problem and we hope to receive cooperation from the residents of Shah Alam to ensure that the city if free from dengue.

“This includes ensuring that the surrounding area is free from garbage and to always practice proper disposal of garbage,” he added.

From the beginning of January 2014 till February 22, a total of 1505 out of 1898 cases reported in Shah Alam tested positive for dengue.

Among the areas identified as dengue localities under the MBSA’s administration are Section 7 and Section U5.
