CYBERJAYA, 28 Feb: A total of 2.2 million more people in the Klang Valley will face water scheduling starting from 2 March following the receding water levels in dams.
The Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas) Executive Director of the Operations Division, Yusof Saroji, said that this situation will affect 260 areas in six districts, namely Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor.
He said that the six districts will be implementing the second stage of the Water Scheduling Plan by Syabas, starting from 2 March till 31 March.
The second stage of the water distribution schedule was decided in discussions with the State Government on 25 and 27 February.
In Syabas’ explanation with the National Water Commission (SPAN) today, they informed that the six districts involve 358,342 accounts or 431,617 households, bring it to almost 2.2 million people in the Klang Valley.
“The six districts will be divided into two zones, with the concept of providing water in turns; two days receiving the water and to days without water.
“SPAN will coordinate with the management and the implementation of the scheduling plan, with resources from the State Government, the Federal Government and Syabas,” she said.
Yusof said that for areas are slow and high to receive water supply, they will deliver supplies no later than four o’clock.
Yusof also admitted that Syabas does not have enough trucks and staff to deliver water and will work with the Selangor State Government to assist the smooth delivery of water supply.
“We only have 66 tanker trucks and 750 septic tanks. We admit that we have logistics problem to ensure supplies are delivered on schedule, so we will ask the State Government for assistance,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of SPAN, Datuk Ismail Kasim, said that the hot weather and lack of rainfall at catchments areas have caused the Sungai Selangor and Klang Gates dams have receded to alarming levels, with each having a reserve of 47.57 percent and 53.54 percentage as of last night.
He said that the water distribution will continue based on the water level of both dams at the end of the period.
Some of the areas and premises exempt from the scheduling include the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, the Putrajaya Federal Government Administrative Centre, the Selangor State Government Administrative Centre, Port Klang, the KLIA and Subang Airports, Private and Government Hospitals and the Free Trade Zone Industrial area.
