CM Does Not Want Decision to Contest as PKR Deputy President Affect Kajang By-Election

SHAH ALAM, 1 Mar: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, does not want the early announcement made to contest for the PKR Deputy President post to be a move that is detrimental to the main focus on the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election.

He said that the decision on the matter was to provide dedicated service to the party that has provided much support to his as the Selangor Chief Minister.

He said that his willingness to contest is based on his own decision and is not due to pressure from any party.

“I am just stating my willingness and I hope that this will stay as it is and we will focus on the preparation to face the by-election for the Kajang Dun,” he told reporters after inaugurating the martial arts, weapons and heritage festival.

Meanwhile, when asked about his strength to contest for the second highest position in the party, Abdul Khalid said that he has convincing performance, in addition to being honest and dedicated.

He said that it is important that the decision was made to bring about reforms in the party and that he has no personal agenda.

Yesterday, Abdul Khalid announced that he will be contesting for the number two position in PKR, thus confirming previous speculation.

The announcement was made at the Malam Tautan Kasih at his official residence in Section 7 last night, which was attended by about 200 people.
