KAJANG, 10 Mar: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that Pakatan Rakyat is confident with the leadership of the PKR President, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as the candidate of the N25 Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election.
“We are confident with Wan Azizah’s strength in joining the N25 DUN,” he said at the TAWAS Recipients’ Birthday Celebration in Kajang.
As the N25 by-election Director, Abdul Khalid said that Wan Azizah is the ideal candidate because the people themselves have seen her courage in fighting to uphold justice since 1998.
The N25 DUN nomination will be held on 11 March, while the campaign period given by the Election Commission (EC) is 14 days after the nomination day.
Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has been chosen to replace her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to contest in the Kajang by-election on 23 March.
The decision was announced by Anwar at the DUN by-election Operations Room at Batu 12, Kajang, yesterday.
Wan Azizah was selected to replace Anwar after the PKR de facto leader was disqualified to contest when the Court of Appeal sentenced him to prison in a case involving his former aide, Saiful Bukhari Azlan, on 7 March.
Wan Azizah will be facing the candidate from Barisan Nasional, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.
The Kajang DUN seat was vacant after its incumbent, who is also from PKR, Lee CHin Cheh, resigned on 27 January.
