KUALA LUMPUR, 10 Mar: Pakatan Rakyat Members of Parliament today wore plain black suits to Parliament and not the white custom protocol suit when attending the speech by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who officially opened the Parliamentary session this year, as a sign of protest.
Although white suits are usually worn by all 222 Members of Parliament, the Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that Pakatan MPs wore black suits like at normal Parliamentary sessions, as a sign of protest against “injustice and abuse of power”.
Pakatan has announced its intention to boycott the parade and royal banquet because Anwar said that his party does not want to be with those who are “cruel and unjust”.
“We attended (Agong’s speech) as a sign of loyalty to the Agong,” he said, quoted from Malaysiakini.
The opposition coalition will also boycott the Parliamentary session tomorrow and let only BN MPs attend the first day of the full session.
