Port Klang, Banting Continue to Record Dangerous API Readings

SHAH ALAM, 14 Mar: Port Klang and Banting have recorded dangerous Air Pollutant Index (API) levels according to the Department of Environment (DOE), as of 8am.

The report on the website (DOE) found that the two areas have recorded API levels exceeding 300, with Port Klang being 358 and Banting at 311.

Meanwhile, 13 areas nationwide have recorded unhealthy API readings. These places are; Petaling Jaya (185), Shah Alam (164), Putrajaya (175), Kuala Selangor (149), Batu Muda (176), Cheras (147), Nilai (168), Port Dickson (169), Muar (107) and Seremban (154).

The DOE categorised API readings at 0-50 as good, 51-100 as moderate, 101-200 as unhealthy, 201-300 as very unhealthy and 301 and above is categorised as dangerous.

The Selangor Department of Education has also ordered 131 schools in the Klang district to close today following unhealthy and dangerous API readings.

According to the website, usually the ozone concentration is high and dominates API readings in some areas around late afternoon or early evening.
