Good Chance for Anwar to be Acquitted at Federal Court if There is No Political Interference

SHAH ALAM, 18 Mar: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to have a good chance to be acquitted at the Federal Court trial if there is no political power intervention from the Federal Government.

The Member of Parliament for Bukit Katil, Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, said that this was based on the evidence given by the PKR de facto leader’s lawyer during the trial at the Kuala Lumpur High Court in the Sodomy 2 case involving Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

“At the Court of Appeal stage, there was clearly political interference, so much so that the original appeal date from 7 to 10 April was brought forward in a hurry before the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election candidate nomination date.

“The Chief Justice is challenged to explain this situation, but no reasonable answer has been given,” said Shamsul when contacted by Selangor Kini.

Shamsul said that Anwar’s lawyers have registered the case at the federal Court on 10 March and the trial date will be announced by the court registry later on.

Prior to that, Anwar’s lawyers informed that court about the medical report from the first Medical Officer from the Islamic Medical Centre (Pusrawi) who examined Saiful and said that the anus of the complainant was not bleeding, was not injured, not purulent and was clean, dry and looked normal.

Defense counsel Karpal Singh previously argued that three doctors from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital also informed that there were no conclusive and critical findings to prove that there was anal penetration and there was no form of self-defence from Saiful.

On 7 March, the Court of Appeal set aside the decision of the High Court by deciding that Anwar was guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison.
