Wan Azizah Competes for Party President in Case Anwar is Prevented

SHAH ALAM, 30 Mar: In the interest of the party, the President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, has decided to defend her presidency.

This is due to the actions by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, which over the years have prevented the advance of the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Pakatan Rakyat (PR), in capturing Putrajaya in various dirty ways.

Dr Wan Azizah said the dirty politics practiced by BN has becoming worse in recent years, especially in using the Court of Appeal to prevent Anwar from contesting in the Kajang by-election recently.

“Now, it is possible that there will be attempts from Umno-BN to once again deny Anwar’s democratic right to contest and hold office as the President of PKR legally.

“By understanding and observing the political arena in recent years and understanding the wisdom needed to face an enemy like Umno-BN, which often uses dirty political tactics, I am receiving the suggestions of a few members of the party to volunteer as a candidate for the office of the PKR President.

“This decision is being done to protect the interests and the future of the party if in the near future, before the nomination is finalised, Anwar cannot continue his candidacy,” she said in a press statement released yesterday.

Dr Wan Azizah said that the PKR family will celebrate democracy and enliven the meaning of reform in electing the party’s leadership for the upcoming term.

During the nomination process for the highest leadership of PKR, which ended yesterday, Dr Wan Azizah and Anwar we both nominated for the post of President.
