SYABAS Extends Water Rationing till 30 April

SHAH ALAM, 30 Mar: The First and Third Stage of the Water Rationing Plan scheduled to end on 31 March has been extended until 30 April.

The Assistant General Manager for the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Department for the Selangor Water Supply Company Sdn Bhd (SYABAS), Priscilla Alfred, said the decision was made in the Water Supply Distribution Contingency Plan meeting by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and the Selangor Government the day before.

“The First Stage of the Water Rationing Plan is still active because the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Cheras Batu 11 and the WTP in Bukit Tampoi are still closed due to high levels of ammonia in the Sungai Langat,” she said in a statement yesterday.

Priscilla said for consumers in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang who receive water supply through the two WTPs will face water rationing as scheduled in the First Stage of the Water Rationing Plan.

For the Third Stage of the Water Rationing Plan involving several areas in the Klang Valley is still active because the water levels in dams and water flow in the Sungai Selangor has yet to increase.

“SPLASH (Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor) and Puncak Niaga is still continuing control and reduction in the release if raw water from the Sungai Selangor dam and the Klang Gates dam,” she said, as reported from BERNAMA.

She advised consumers to avoid wastage and to not use water for non-essential purposes such as washing vehicles, filling water in swimming pools and watering ornamental plants.
