PETALING JAYA, 13 Apr: The residents of Damansara Damai want a second access to be built before the planning permission for the 33-storey apartment project starts.
The Deputy Nazir of the Damansara Damai Mosque, Abd Nasir Hassan, said that this is because the 605-unit apartment is expected to worsen the entry and exit traffic congestion in the area.
“At this time, to leave during the morning working hours, it takes an hour. The traffic congestion will be worse if this 600-unit apartment is completed. The current estimate of the resident population of 80,000 to 100,000 is very dense.
“We do not prevent the development, but the responsible parties and the developer need to ensure that a development does not burden the community of Damansara Damai,” he said.
He said that the population density in Damansara Damai, which has 14 apartments, also increase various social ills.
“The population is dense, but there is yet to be a religious school and a community hall. If we build a religious school or a community hall, the residents will not object because it is in our interest. But this project would increase the population density and traffic congestion,” he said.
The Saujana Apartment Residents’ Association Chairman, Faizul Najib Abd Muniam, said that the memorandum of protest has been submitted to the Mayor of Petaling Jaya on March 11.
“We have submitted the memo of protest to the Mayor’s personal assistant. We will not stop here, but we will fight of our objections are not heard and given attention. In fact, we will mobilise in a larger number,” he said.
Meanwhile, about 150 residents of Damansara Damai held a peaceful demonstration in front of the Saujana Apartment and Idaman Apartment traffic-light junction since 10am.
Donning red clothing, they chanted various protest slogans and marched to the project site to wait for the arrival of the Bukit Lanjan Assemblywoman, Elizabeth Wong.
