Nurul Izzah: ‘BN’s Time is Over, Najib Should Resign Now’

SHAH ALAM, 14 Apr: Datuk Seri Najib Razak nearly lost in Pekan, Pahang, in the 1999 General Election due to the reform boom at the time, but with the courtesy of postal votes, he won by 240 votes.

The PKR Vice President, Nurul Izzah Anwar, said that the Prime Minister still refuses to learn from the uprising of the people despite winning by a slim vote.

“By how many votes did he win then? Do you all remember? 240 votes. Even those were votes by the police and postal votes, otherwise Najib Tun Razak would have already plunged,” she said at the Reformation 2.0 talk at Taman Berjaya Permai, Kempedang Kuantan.

She said that Najib and his government are not still being arrogant when they carry out corrupt administrative policies and practice racial politics.

“But he is still arrogant, still cheats in election, practices corruption, implements racial policies to divide the people and cause a dim future,” she added, quoted from Keadilan Daily today.

She urged the people to reject Umno-BN which is seen as weakening in governing the country by taking into account the government’s failure in addressing economic and education issues.

“It is estimated that the subsidy cuts under the BN regime, subsidy after subsidy is cut and the Malays will return to poverty like in 1970,” she said.

She added that the national education system under the Umno-BN government has also failed when the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report found that Malaysian students are far behind compared to other countries.

“Under the PISA report, our rich country has oil but is not able to compete with the poor children in Vietnam. In my opinion, it is time for you (BN) to end and Najib, you should resign now,” she said.
