CM: Syabas Placed Under KDEB in Water Restructuring

SHAH ALAM, 18 Apr: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas) will be placed under the management of Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB).

He said the acquisition process of the water concession in Selangor is still in discussions with the Ministry of Energy, Water and Environment (Kettha).

He said that this has been much discussed, especially in the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session this time.

“I think that this has been discussed much because the matter is still in discussions with the Ministry,” he said in reply to a question from the Assemblyman for Lembah Jaya, Kashim Abdul Aziz.

The water restructuring process has been the focus in the DNS session this time, which saw several Assemblymen raising questions about the current development of the process.

Prior to this, the Selangor Government signed an agreement with the Federal Government, which saw Selangor being granted permission to implement the restructuring of the water industry.

In return, the Selangor Government is ready to give permission for the Langat 2 project to be implemented.
