Former Athletes Urged to Help Develop Sports in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 4 Dec – Former athletes are urged to help develop sports in Selangor especially by polishing young talent to strengthen the success of the state in the sports arena.

The call is being made by Malay Customs, Youth and Sports Exco, Dr Ahmad Yunu,s who sees sports as an industry.

“We expect that the management and development of sports will be handled by former athletes because they are the people who understand and know about the development of sports,” he said at the 2011 Selangor Sports Awards.

As chairman of the Selangor Sports Council (MSN), Ahmad Yunus also expects a combination of MSN sports associations to continue to develop young Selangor athletes to become champions who will not only bring honour to the state, but also to the country at an international level.

He said that the movers of sports at all levels need to review the performance of adolescent athletes and strive to improve their performance.

“We need to realize that the development of sports in the state is no longer the sole responsibility of the government, the movers and the organisation of the sport itself, but the sport belongs to the people and society.

“Furthermore, some provisions of the development of the sport itself comes from state revenues and the people of Selangor.

“The rise and fall of sports athletes is no longer a closed issue but is shared by the entire community,” he said.

The State Government gave recognition and appreciation via MSN Selangor to successful athletes at state and national levels in the 2011 Selangor Sports Awards at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Concorde, Shah Alam.

The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah was present, acommpanied by Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and leaders of the State Government.

Karate-do athlete, Loganeshaa Roa s/o Ramaraw was selected as Sportsman of Selangor 2011 while Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi of tenpin bowling was chosen as Sportswoman of Selangor 2011.

The Sportsman and Sportswoman 2011 awards were presented by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Idris Shah Alhaj Sharafuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj.

The Sportsman and Sportswoman of 2011 each received a cash prize of RM5,000, a trophy, and a certificate of appreciation.
