PETALING JAYA, 22 Apr: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, withdrew from contesting for the presidency in the party leadership election.
This was confirmed with the announcement by the Chairman of the Election Committee (JPP), Datuk Johari Abdul, in a press conference at the PKR headquarters today.
Thus, the withdrawal gives way to Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to win unopposed as the President of PKR.
Johari said that the JPP received a letter of withdrawal from Anwar who stated his decision last week.
“He (Anwar) submitted the letter last week. I am only announcing it now. During the previous (JPP) press conference, he had signaled to withdraw.
“But a lot of things happened, like Karpal’s death and the court case,” said Johari.
