The spokesman for Reject TPPA, Azwan Awang, urged the government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to not bow to the demands of the U.S. because it will affect the national economy and burden the people.

“Obama comes to urge and persuade the PM to follow his will to sign the agreement. That is the real agenda of his visit.

“We do not want the people to be burdened. The government should think about the people first before acting,” he said, quoted from Keadilan Daily.

According to him, the government should take this matter lightly because it involves the matter of economy and the future of the people of this country.

He said that the TPPA will bring about many adverse effects on the people, including monopoly on drugs, which will cause the cost of healthcare to become expensive.

“Although this agreement has yet to be signed, early steps should be taken. No not fall for Obama’s pleas,” he said.
