SHAH ALAM, 2 May: A moderate earthquake occurred near the Nias islands, North of Sumatra, last night causing tremors to be felt in parts of Perak and Selangor.
Bernama reported that The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD) in a statement said that the magnitude 5.7 earthquake on the Ritcher scale took place at 10.35 pm last night. Its epicentre was 68km northeast of the Nias islands, 408km northwest of Sabak Bernam, Selangor.
“MMD is monitoring developments and would update accordingly,” the statement added.
