Anwar Ibrahim: Pakatan Rakyat Will Not Split

JAKARTA, 3 May: Malaysian Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is confident that Pakatan Rakyat will not split up because the sentence imposed on him.

He is optimistic that the coalition will continue to gain support from the people.

“If (twisted legal problems) is intended to weaken Pakatan Rakyat, I think that it will not happen, Insya Allah.

Because what the people want is an judiciary institution that is free from political influence and for the decision to not be disturbed by anyone,” said Anwar, quoted from Republika Online (ROL), when met at the Senayan Parliament Complex yesterday.

In 2008, Anwar was dragged to court with allegations of having sex with his aide. However, the court said that the former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia was innocent.

Following that, the Malaysian government, led by the Barisan Nasional coalition, made an appeal on the case.

Some view the move as an action to just discredit Anwar as their political opponent.

The Court of Appeal sentenced Anwar to five years in prison on March 7.

In the 2013 general election, Pakatan Rakyat managed to obtain 89 out of 222 seats in Parliament.
