SHAH ALAM, 4 May: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to commission an independent survey among the Chinese community on whether policies set by the Barisan Nasional (BN) have directly helped the Chinese community’s success.
The Member of Parliament for Seputeh, Teresa Kok, said that Chinese voters have overwhelmingly rejected BN in the 2008 and 2014 general elections proves how they feel about the BN government.
“Unfair allocations, shortage of schools and teachers are among the various and longstanding issues faced by the Chinese primary schools and have long been highlighted by Opposition parties, Chinese groups and community, yet the government has not resolved these problems despite having been in power for decades.
“Even till today, the school Boards of Chinese schools have to fork out their own money to employ temporary teachers due to teacher shortage,” she said on her Facebook status yesterday.
She said that Datuk Seri Najib’s claim that BN has ensured a fair share of opportunities in the country that led to most Chinese being relatively successful is far from the truth and can only be viewed as an attempt to downplay the extra hard work the community has to do and the unfair conditions they have to face in order to succeed.
“I am certain that the survey result will show that majority do not agree with the Prime Minister’s claim,” she said.
Prior to this, Najib reportedly claimed that the policies implemented by the BN government greatly influenced the success of the Chinese community today.
In relation to that, she said that if Datuk Seri Najib is committed to 1Malaysia concept, he should implement color blind policies which will help strengthen the sense of belonging among all Malaysians and forge genuine unity among all races.
