Mine Water Yet to be Used, Excess Water Enough for Consumers

SEKINCHAN, 7 May: The process of pumping mine water being carried out has yet to be fully used because the water from Sungai Selangor is enough to be supplied to consumers in the Klang Valley.

The Selangor Executive Councillor for Infrastructure, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the water level of the river is enough to be treated, in fact the excess water will be sucked up and stores in mines.

He said this after attending a dialogue with the fishing community in Sekinchan yesterday.

Dr Yunus said that the decision to pump mine water to be channelled to Sungai Selangor is not new.

It is because the State Government had taken similar steps to overcome the drought in 1998, when the water was channelled into Sungai Selangor form the KL Larut pool.

“We used the KL Larut pool in 1998 to be channelled into the river to be treated to overcome the drought at the time.

“We understand that at the time, the mine was used as a source of water,” said Dr Yunus.
