SHAH ALAM, 7 May: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) offered a total cash prize of RM71,000 for the Shah Alam Art Site project contest in Section 7 as a continuation of the Back Alley Beautification Programme.
The Mayor of Shah Alam, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan, said that the programme knows as the Arte Site 7 is to change the atmosphere in back alleys, especially in commercial areas, making the area safe, clean and open to visitors.
He said that the back alley behind the commercial area at Jalan Plumbum Q7/Q was chosen by MBSA for the implementation of this competition because it is an area visited by many and is booming.
“We want to change the society’s perception on back alleys which are often regarded as dirty, unkept and unsafe to be changed to a positive perception, thus impacting and changing the environment of the area.
“We also aim to make this new location a focus area for tourism, art and culture activities, thus promoting business and maintaining the green landscape of back alleys,” he said in a press conference at the Concorde Hotel.
Mohd Jaafar said that the competition is free and open to everyone, regardless of race or background.
He said that the four categories being contested are; 2D Painting, 3D Installation, Street Furniture and Painting On Site, with cash prizes amounting to RM71,000 in total.
“This contest has been promoted in mid-April and the deadline for entries is on May 23.
“We hope that this project will become a new attraction not only to the people of Shah Alam, but also involving communities from outside,” he added.
The project will be carried out in the back alley of about 58 business premises in Section 7, carrying the theme of Shah Alam community, tourist attraction and green concept.

Each participant can only participate in two categories and the best entry from each category will be chosen for the finals and evaluated before given authorisation to be implemented in designated locations.
