17 PKR Branches Hold Re-Election This Week

SHAH ALAM, 8 May: 17 PKR branches will hold branch and Central Leadership Council (MPP) elections this week after the previous election was cancelled due to some problems.

The Chairman for the Party Election Committee (JPP), Datuk Johari Abdul, said that four branches from the total will hold a re-election at a date to be announced later.

He said that they will issue the re-election notice for all branches involved in the near future.

“During the meeting on May 5, we found 17 branches with problems in the voting process. Therefore, the JPP decided a re-election to be carried out for 13 branches and MPP on Saturday (May 13), while the remaining four will be announced soon,” he said in a statement.

Johari said that 13 branches and MPP involved are; Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kemaman, Dungun, Paya Besar, Nibong Tebal, Jerantut, Batang Sadong, Kapit, Pengerang, Tenggara, Tenom and Keningau.

“For the Bukit Katil, Tawau, Papar and Sungai Petani branches, there will be an election on a date to be determined and announced later,” he said.

The PKR leadership election for the 2014-2017 session in some branches had to be postponed due to commotion and allegations of election fraud.

Previously, there was pressure from a PKR member, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, for the JPP to decide to cancel the participation of the Deputy President, Azmin Ali, for alleged election fraud.

The branch which will go through a re-election under Section 9.3 of the Party Election Rules and an officer was suspended so far.
