PETALING JAYA, 9 May: 180 units of the Public Housing Project (PHP) in Kota Damansara which have suffered damages will be fully restored in September this year.
The Executive Councillor for Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlers, Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that he will apply for a cash advance from the State Government or the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to bear the cost of repair.
He said that the PHP management can only afford to repair about 20 units per month with an average repair cost of RM3,500 per unit at present.
“We want the reparation work to be done quickly because there are 300 on the waiting list to rent here. So if all units can be repaired, we can place some of them,” he said when visiting Section 8, Kota Damansara today.
Earlier, he conducted a survey around the vicinity of the PHP, which is now under the management of a subsidiary company of the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), Selangor Housing and Property Sdn Bhd (PHHS).
Previously, the PHP in Kota Damansara only had 1,152 units under the management of MBPJ before being submitted to PHHS since May 2013.
“I noticed that there have been a lot of progress done by the company, one of it is placing security guards at each block, where there are two guards per block, including at night.
“The company also opens their office from Monday to Friday, and for half a day on Saturdays, with five staff to facilitate the people who want to make complaints or pay rent.
“In fact, a technical team has been provided to repair damages to units here and also, the storeroom has been stocked with common replacements such as keys and water closets at toilets,” he said.
Additionally, the company has also enhanced the motorcycle parking area and built several other facilities for the benefit of the residents.
While under MBPJ’s management, the office counter was only open once a week and residents had to go to the MBPJ office to make rent payments or lodge any complaints.
The rental rates for the Kota Damansara PHP is only RM124 per month for those earning RM1,500 and below and RM250 is charged to those earning more than that.
