Izzah Leads in PKR Vice President Candidacy

SHAH ALAM, 9 May: The results for the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) election witnessed the incumbent for the Vice President’s seat, Nurul Izzah Anwar, leading with 13,013 votes, followed by Tian Chua with 11,845 votes, and Rafizi Ramli with 10,561 votes, as of May 4.

The results show that Rafizi, also the PKR Strategy Director, will fill one of the party’s three Vice President seats.

Seven other Vice President candidates who are at the top of the 16 candidates vying for the seats are, Baru Bian with 7,210 votes, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (7,161), Dr Xavier Jayakumar (6,776), Fuziah Salleh (5,955), Lee Chin Cheh (4,814), Mustaffa Kamil Ayub (4,381) and N Surendran (2,533).

Meanwhile, the competition to grab the seat of Deputy President intensifies when the Chief Minister of Selangor, Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, overtook votes received by the PKR Secretary General, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, with 6,217 votes against the 5,717 votes received by Saifuddin.

The competition for the position of the PKR Youth (AMK) Chief also saw stiff competition as there are three candidates vying for the post.

The Assemblyman of Batu Caves, Amirudin Shari, is at the top position with 1,619 votes, followed by the Assemblyman for Seri Setia, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, with 1,540 votes, while Mohd Nazree Yunus has received 1,036 votes.

The three candidates previously held a debate by bringing up their respective ideologies and received praise from the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The competition for the post of Wanita PKR Chief saw the two candidates only separated by 500 votes when the incumbent, Zuraida Kamaruddin, led with 3,180 votes and the Assemblywoman for Batu Tiga, Rodziah Ismail, received 2,626 votes.

Rodziah previously said that the intense competition proves that she is a qualified candidate, in addition to the party’s acceptance of her leadership.

Apart from that, for the office of Central Leadership Council (MPP), Fariz Musa leads with 11,934 votes, followed by the Chief of the PKR Legal Bureau, Latheefa Koya (10,037) and the Assemblywoman for Bukit Lanjan, Elizabeth Wong (9,784).

Seven others who recorded the highest votes of the 78 candidates contesting are; Christina Liew with 9,489 votes, Ali Biju (9,285), Sim Tze Tzin (9,147), William Leong (9,059), Gooi Hsiao Leung (9,010), Abdul Yunus Jamahri (8,934) and Dr Yaakob Sapari (8,737).

On 10 and 11 May, the voters in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur will carry out their responsibilities before the full results are obtained.
