CEC reviews video where ballot boxes were kicked, candidate will be dismissed

PETALING JAYA, 13 May: The Central Election Committee (ECE) has ordered the election staff to identify those who caused a chaos at the Selangor level Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Election 2014, which took place on May 11.

The identification will be carried out to enable decisive action to be taken whether to cancel the victory, suspend membership or dismiss those involved from the party.

The CEC Chairman, Datuk Johari Abdul, said that the investigation and identification will also be conducted on the incident where ballot boxes were kicked in Kuala Langat.

“We have video recordings of the Kuala Langat branch elections yesterday. Five Malay youngsters stormed in before the end of the polling session and kicked the ballot boxes, causing the ballots to scatter all over the floor.

“We will find out what happened. We will not cancel Kuala Langat because we want to show that you can act arbitrarily but the CEC will not tolerate this gangster behaviour.

“We have ordered all officers on duty to identify those who caused the chaos from videos and pictures,” he said during a press conference here at the PKR headquarters yesterday.

Johari also did not rule out the possibility that the disturbance was caused by outsiders brought in by certain people to spoil the process and results of the election this time.

Apart from the Election Complaints Committee (ECC) chaired by Abdul Malek Hussain, the PKR Disciplinary Committee also held a hearing involving candidates found to be in violation with the party’s ethical codes.

Prior to this, before the press conference started, the candidate for the Kuala Selangor branch Chief, S Manikavasagam, who bumped into Selangor Kini journalists, informed that he will be standing before the disciplinary committee.

However, he did not explain further why he was called by the committee.
