CM: Anwar to inform important decisions regarding the PKR election

SHAH ALAM, 15 May: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is expected to make an important announcement regarding the decisions reached by the party’s Political Bureau in the near future.

The Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that last night, the PKR Political Bureau, among others, discussed voting procedures and for polling centre maintenance to be carried out throughout the election period.

Abdul Khalid, who was present at the meeting, said that the announcement also includes several issues raised throughout the election, including the date for the re-election in several branches where the results were previously cancelled.

“We made a number of political bureau rulings which the de facto leader (Anwar) will announce and only after that, bureau members can make their statement.

“We were advised to make room for the de facto leader (Anwar) and others are not encouraged to make any statement (for the time being),” he said during a press conference here at the SUK Building.

Earlier, he attended the Malaysian Woman Marathon Charity Event at the SUK lobby, which was also attended by state Executive Councillors Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Dr Halimah Ali and Elizabeth Wong.

The PKR election started at the end of last month and saw stiff competition for the position of party Deputy President, which Abdul Khalid is contesting for together with its incumbent Azmin Ali and another candidate, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution.

The latest reports show that Abdul Khalid has a promising chance to clinch the number-two seat following the number of votes received so far; 10,800 votes, a difference of only 500 votes received by Azmin Ali.

The total votes only take into account the results received by the Central Election Committee (CEC) for Selangor, the Federal Territory and Negeri Sembilan, and do not include the number of votes for branches where the results have been cancelled or postponed.

Prior to this, the voting in ten PKR branches in Selangor had to be carried out again dues to various problems during the polling process.

These branches are Hulu Langat, Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar, Subang, Klang, Selayang, Kota Raja, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Kapar.
