PETALING JAYA, 16 May: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, assured that the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) will not abet and protect those found to be involved in fraud and those who break the party rules throughout the election period.
Anwar said that this is different to the ‘practice’ of the Election Commission (EC) which cheats with Barisan Nasional (BN) to allow BN to lead Putrajaya.
“The EC is involved in fraud with Umno, but for the CEC, as soon as they receive complaints or know of any disciplinary problems, decisive action is taken regardless of which candidate they support. Do not liken the CEC with the EC.
“We are the Keadilan (justice) CEC, not the EC. We do not protect criminals, fraudsters and those who commit violence.
“So, we will not hesitate to cancel any election (results) if it is proven that a violation occurred,” Anwar said during a press conference at the PKR headquarters today.
While acknowledging that there are some weaknesses in the voting process, Anwar said that although PKR does not have large financial resources like the EC, PKR will still strive to improve the electoral process, including considering to increase poll monitors.
He added that among the factors contributing to various controversies in Selangor during the electoral process is the large number of members in the state.
Prior to this, the PKR Election 2014, which is being held, saw a host of controversies which sparked several incidents in several branches.
This forced the CEC to decide to cancel the polls in 27 branches across the country.
