SHAH ALAM, 18 MAY: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has been suggested to maintain focus in organising more sports program for the public in order to shape a healthy community.
Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that this is in line with the status of the city which has a majority of residents below the age of 35.
“There are a few sports that we must continue and what are important are the future plans of Shah Alam.”
“Unlike other cities like Tokyo and London which has a majority of residents above the age of 55, Shah Alam is a young a city with about 60 percent of its residents below the age of 35. ”
“That is the main reason why Shah Alam needs to enhance its sports activities,” he told the media earlier today.
Earlier, he was present at the Expreme Sports Park to flag off the Shah Alam Endure Ride 2014 which consisted of almost 800 participants from across the nation.
Also present at the flag off ceremony that started exactly at 8 in the morning was Mayor of Shah Alam City Council, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan along with his deputy, Mokhtar Hani.
The Shah Alam Endure Ride 2014 was open to five different categories which is Women Open (18 years old and above), Men Master (36 years till 45 years old), Senior Men Master (46 years old and above), Men Open ( 35 years old and below) and Men Juniors ( 18 years old and below).
The first time competition requires contestants to cycle as far as 160 kilometres starting from the vicinity of the Shah Alam Extreme Sports Park and passes the Klang, Gombak and Kuala Selangor district.
Contestants that finish the race within eight hours will be eligible to receive a participation certificate as well as medals while gifts are given to club participations and best recorded time.
Besides the cycling competition, a few other programs was held such as a wall climbing competition, Mountain Bike show competition, BMX, skateboarding competition, a Leisure Cycle around Shah Alam and a lucky draw.
