MH370: Nufam urged MAS to not abandon families of 10 crew members

SHAH ALAM, 19 May: The move by Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) of allegedly ‘abandoning’ the families of MH370 crew members for meeting with foreign law firms is a heartless and irresponsible action.

The National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam), in its media statement, condemned the move, even though MAS had promised to meet all the needs and demands required.

Nufam said that MAS cannot ignore these obligations towards the families as the airline did not offer any compensation to the families of MH370 crew members.

“It is shameful to see how they can just wash their hands off and act as if nothing had happened,” the organisation said.

Nufam also demanded for MAS to bear the necessary expenses required by the families of the crew members as they have yet to offer any form of solution.

In addition to that, Nufam also urged the government to intervene as the families have no one else to turn to.

“MAS should support the families. Not stay silent and leave family members confused and wondering.

“It is time to help and MAS should not neglect their welfare at this point and expect them to live life as usual,” he said.

Yesterdays, the family members of the missing MH370 aircraft crew claimed that MAS ‘abandoned’ them because they sought legal advice.

The families of seven of the 12 crew members said the national carrier sent an email to them two days ago asking them to get their lawyers to deal with the airlines legal team for all requests related to the missing passenger jet.

They also lost contact with the caregivers, who are representatives of MAS, to provide the latest information to the family members.

“One of the crew member’s wife will be delivering a child soon, so how does the management feel about this? We feel very sorry thinking about the fate the mother and the unborn child would have to face.

“MAS should ask about the mother’s condition and provide the necessary assistance. This is so irresponsible of MAS,” the statement said.

The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft owned by MAS, which carried 227 passengers and 12 crew members, on the way to Beijing, disappeared from public radar when it crossed the South China Sea.
