Campaign for Strata Homes to reduce waste a wise move in managing solid waste

SHAH ALAM, 6 JULY: The state government has launched a campaign aimed at producing less waste for Strata Homes to ensure the people of Selangor can improve in managing their own home’s waste.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said, efficient waste management for households can help save cost for managing solid waste as much as RM400 million per year.

He added, the public must be aware of the importance of good waste management as it also benefits the nature.

“We need to use less plastic and polystyrene because these materials are dissolvable. Some like the biodegradable type, can be destroyed but the cost is expensive.”

“It is advisable for us to bring our own containers to the market, plus its cleaner and healthier,” he said, here.

Abdul Khalid also called for all representatives of Joint Management Body (JMB) to work hard to create awareness for apartment residents and to make sure this program is successful.

“All JMB has close relationships with residents of the apartments, so I plead for all of us to work together to provide awareness to them,” he said.

The state government will distribute 500 food containers to 12 chosen apartments in the first phase of the campaign. This is to test out if it will work before it’s implemented throughout Selangor.
