Malaysia Cup: Red Giants want to focus on passing through the group stage

SHAH ALAM, 20 July: The Selangor football team should be more focused on passing the group stage of the Malaysia Cup before thinking about Mission 33, which has not been achieved since 2011.

The Selangor team Captain, Mohd Bunyamin Umar, said that this does not mean he wants to forget the mission, however the failure for three consecutive seasons have made him more cautious and he thinks that it would be better for the Red Giants to focus on one game at a time.

“In my opinion, it would be better for us to first aim for the quarter-finals (Malaysia Cup) by focusing on one game at a time.

“So, concerning Mission 33, I think we should put it aside first because it is important now for the Selangor team to show determination to qualify for the quarter-finals and then the semi-finals,” he said, quoted from Sinar Harian.

According to the Kedah-born player, he believes that his teammates are looking forward to realising Mission 33, but at the same time, he realises that Selangor should be more realistic.

“We are determined to lift a trophy and for me (winning the) Malaysia Cup would be a pretty sweet success.

“But, like I said earlier, I want to focus on one match at a time first,” he told Selangor Kini, adding that they are currently training ahead of the competition.

Selangor was drawn with Sime Darby, the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) and T-Team in Group D and the first Malaysia Cup match will begin on 13 and 14 August.

For the record, the last time the Red Giants won the Malaysia Cup was in 2005.
