Beware as dengue cases reported an increase of 338%

SHAH ALAM, 3 AUGUST: Dengue cases in Selangor recorded an increase of up till 338.05 percent with 29,972 cases recorded altogether from January till 27 July as compared to only 6,842 cases for the same period last year.

Health Department Director, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the increase in dengue cases is due to inefficient managing of rubbish and solid waste collection.

“Among the problems are rubbish and solid waste that is not being picked up on schedule,” he told Bernama.

Dr Noor Hisham said the focus should be on programmes to contain Aedes mosquitoes in the state as it is a referendum if Selangor is able to combat these dengue cases, it will be possible to follow suit by other states in the country.

“Go all out to fight dengue in Selangor. KKM(Malaysia Healthy Ministry) has instructed its assistants from outside Selangor to assist in the programmes to combat dengue,” he added.
