Sungai Selangor water level expected to increase during the monsoon season

SHAH ALAM, 5 Aug: The water level at the Sungai Selangor dam today stands at 32.48 percent and will increase during the monsoon season which is due to start this October.

The Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that Selangor, like any other state in the west coast, will receiver higher rainfall compared to the dry season.

Meanwhile, the State Government is also actively pursuing cloud seeding efforts and pumping water from the Hang Tuah pond to ensure that water capacity at the dam is sufficient to be supplied to consumers in Selangor.

“Although at this time the water level is not at a critical level, the State Government will undertake on-going efforts to ensure sufficient water supply before the monsoon season.

“Currently, cloud-seeding efforts and pumping activities from an adjacent pool are underway as planned,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

Dr Ahmad Yunus also urged consumers in Selangor to be more prudent when using water to prevent the levels to reaching the critical level of 30 percent.

“The El Niño has not arrived yet. When the El Niño arrives, the situation would be worse. So, that is why I am advising consumers to be more frugal in using water,” he said.

Dr Ahmad Yunus said that the Sungai Tinggi Dam recorded a higher reading at 45.62 percent at the moment, in addition to Sungai Selangor.
