Cloud seeding twice a day to increase Selangor dam levels

SHAH ALAM, 14 Aug: The State Government, through the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), with cooperation from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), have been implementing cloud seeding operations to increase dam levels.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee for Youth and Sports, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the operation uses sodium chloride solution with the frequency of twice a day starting August 1 at the Sungai Selangor Dam catchment area.

He said that the rainfall received as of today is 181.65 mm.

“This amount is higher compared to the 69.52 mm received in June and 73.05 mm in July.

“Mitigating measures continue, including reducing the rate of water release at the Sungai Selangor Dam to 700 million litres per day (MLD) and the Sungai Tinggi Dam to 500 MLD,” he said in a press statement today.

On Monday, the officer at the alternative pools received a report on pumping sabotage.

However, the monitoring on the condition of the pumps is controlled with the help of the Police and the Malaysian People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA).

In addition, the State Government, through the Selangor Religious Islamic Department (JAIS) will hold prayers to ask for rain at dam areas in the near future.
