The government should take stern action against the UBER taxi service

SHAH ALAM, 265 Aug: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and the government should be aware and take stern action against a foreign company known as UBER.

The Chairman of the Metered Taxi Driver’s Tack Force (BBPTB) Chairman, Amran Jan, said that UBER is now actively offering taxi services online to the public by using latest smartphone applications and Twitter to receive the service.

He said that the large cities that this service has been found to be actively operating in are the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Baharu.

“They are offering Perodua Myvi, Nissan Almera, Toyota Vios for the UBER X package and Mercedes, BMW and other luxury cars for the UBER BLACK package.

“UBER did not receive government approval or related (parties) as it clearly shows a form of serious invasion in our country.

“SPAD and the government must take decisive action to prevent and outlaw the services of UBER,” said Amran Jan in a press statement.

According to Amran Jan, a tourist from Hong Kong claimed to have been cheated of USD1,584 through his credit card after using the UBER service.

He added that after an investigation, the credit card charges were made from a hotel in Mexico when the tourist never went there and his passport also did not have the stamp and visa from the country.

BBPTB strongly demands for a protection scheme or plan for the national taxi services industry to be established to curb such aggressive invasion like this from further happening.
