Selangor Sultan decreed for two more names from PR for the CM position

SHAH ALAM, 26 Aug: His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, decreed for the leaders of each component party in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to propose two more candidate names for the position of the Selangor Chief Minister position to facilitate the selection.

The decree that was stated in an official statement by the Palace was delivered by the Sultan’s Personal Secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, after Tan Sri Abdul Khalid held a meeting with the Sultan at the Bukit Kayangan Palace this afternoon.

The decision is in line with the convention that has been continuously practiced for the appointment of the Chief Minister of Selangor previously.

Commenting on the statement, Abdul Khalid in a press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat (SUK)Building said that an formal letter will be sent by the Palace to the leaders of PAS, PKR and DAP to inform the wishes of the Sultan.

“HRH will write a letter and I understand that the Sultan’s office will write a letter to the leaders of PAS, PKR and DAP to state the demands or wishes of HRH the Sultan for suggestions to be given.

“There is a possibility that there is a date or time period set (for submitting candidates) in the letter,” he said.

In the meantime, he denied that Sultan Sharafuddin rejected the President of PKR, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as a candidate and instead said that the Sultan only asked for more than two names to be proposed for the Selangor Chief Minister candidacy.

He said that the process is considered normal, and in fact it was done during the appointment of the Chief Minister in the era of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) administration of the state.

“HRH did not reject, he just asked for a candidate from each party because PR does is not one group, but every leader of the group must send more than two names.

“Normally, there are no more than four candidates and this procedure has been done by the Palace before PR ruled, the same as when BN wanted to nominate the Chief Minister candidate,” he said.
