Prayer to request for rain at 7 dams on September 5 to increase water levels

SHAH ALAM, 4 Sept: The State Government, through the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), will hold prayers to ask for rain on September 5.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the prayer will be held simultaneously at all seven dams in Selangor.

“The State Government calls on all the people to join together in prayer so that the weather returns to being stable.

“With that, we also hope that our water resources situation will return to normal,” he said during a press conference after the Exco meeting today.

Commenting on the development of water resources, Yunus said that cloud seeding operations at the Sungai Selangor Dam managed to increase the amount of rain received in August compared to last June and July.

“As a result of increased rainfall, the alternative pool water operation was reduced as the water level at the Bestari Jaya Barrage is enough for the intakes.

“At the same time, if there is excess flow, it will be pumped into the pools to optimise the available resources.

“However, close monitoring is done and all pumps are ready to operate if there is a decline in the water levels at the barrage,” he said.

According to the records, the amount of rainfall received at the Sungai Selangor Dam throughout August is 344.30 millimetres as a result of cloud seeding operations.

For a period of four months, starting April 1, the total operation recorded was 102 times.
