Special MBSA team to combat dengue by actively inspecting Aedes breeding hotspots

SHAH ALAM, 4 Sept: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), through the special Fight Dengue Task Force, is continuing to intensify its inspection at some areas that have the potential to become Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.

It’s Deputy Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad, said that until the 35th week, it was found that strata areas are among the areas that have a high level of Aedes breeding.

He said that during inspection, 23 positive Aedes breeding was found at strata areas.

“This is because strata areas, especially low-cost housing, are often overlooked by the residents to ensure that the area is clean.

“The failure by the Joint Management Body or the JMB in maintaining and providing sanitation services is also one of the reasons why Aedes breeds in the surrounding areas,” he said in a statement.

Since its inception last month, so far a total of 248 premises and 122 containers found positive breeding of Aedes.

MBSA also issued 67 compounds against premises that have larvae breeding under the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171).

“Through these findings, MBSA hopes that the owners of premises in strata areas will learn by holding gotong royong activities to clean up the surrounding areas.

“Cooperation between the owners of premises and the management (JMB) is much needed to prevent the outbreak of dengue to attack their area and lead to death,” he added.

The public can also contact the Dengue Operations Room which was established to monitor and receive complaints and reports at 03-5522 2793 during office hours.
