SHAH ALAM, 5 Sept: After five years of being in and out of court to clear her name, Norizan Sallah, who was a victim of police gunfire, wants to focus on her family.
The 34-year-old wants to do so as she got married two years ago and is blessed with a child.
“I am not well-off. Last time, my mother was a single parent with a child and could not work. I think I am going to start a business with the money.
“But now when I am married and have a baby, the children are my priority. But, I also intend to start a business to help my husband,” she told Selangor Kini.
Norizan, a full-time homemaker, came out victorious when the High Court Judge, Datuk Hue Siew Kheng, ordered damages of RM318,326 to be paid to her on charges of police negligence.
She filed a lawsuit against three police officers and the government of Malaysia for alleged negligence that cause her to be exposed to a barrage of shots in October 2009.
During the court process, the mother of four was represented by counsel N.Surendran and Latheefa Koya.
Norizan also advised anyone who is faced with a similar situation to come forward to uphold the truth if they are not guilty.
“Do not fear, do not hesitate. If you feel it is right, no mistake was done, go and uphold justice for yourselves.
“No one is prohibited. Be courageous, we are not offenders if we did nothing wrong. We have to show that we are not guilty,” she said.
On October 30, 2009, the car Norizan was in with her friend on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) was followed by police patrolmen who then fires shots.
The barrage of shots caused her to be severely injured and she was forced to be treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
She also had to undergo surgery for four days and was referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for nine days.
