PKR condemns the seizing of Suara Keadillan, cruel action

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Sept: PKR condemned the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) which seized over 300 copied of the Suara Keadilan newspaper.

The PKR Communications Director, Fahmi Fadzil, said that this cruel action proves that the Umno-BN Government is afraid of current developments so as to restrict information from reaching the people.

“KEADILAN condemns this move by the MOHA which curbs the freedom of expression, a fundamental right enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

“KEADILAN also urges the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to repeal the Printing Presses and Publications Act which is deemed to be iron fisted and undemocratic,” he said.

Apart from that, Najib Razak must show political will as a ‘modern democrat’ and repeal the Act (Printing Presses and Publications) immediately.

“KEADILAN urged the Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, to clarify the status of Suara Keadilan’s permit which has been submitted over a year ago,” he said in a press statement.

September 10, more than 300 copies of Suara Keadilan Bil 189 were confiscated by the MOHA in Kedah.

Among the locations where it was seized were around Alor Setar, Kuala Kedah, Jitra, Pendang and Kepala Batas. Confiscation was also carried out over 188 copies of Suara Keadilan Bil 188 arodun Kepala Batas and Jitra.
