Anwar: CM and Exco should lover the rate of allowance

PETALING JAYA, 26 Sept: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that PKR wants the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, to reduce the allowance of the Chief Minister and the Exco members to a reasonable rate.

Anwar said that the previous hike, despite being justified, should not be implemented dramatically.

He said that the matter which was decided by the former Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, should be reconsidered for the sake of the people.

Previously the salary of the Chief Minister was increased from RM14,175.15 to RM29,,250; state Exco members from RM6,109.29 to RM20,250; State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker from RM6,109.29 to RM22,500; DUN Deputy Speaker from RM3,327.50 to RM15,750 and Assemblymen from RM6,000 to RM11,250.

“We advise the new Chief Minister and Exco members to reduce their allowances to a reasonable rate, the increase was justified but it did not have to be dramatically.

“The transfer of education funds had never happened before and I ask the Chief Minister to take it before the Selangor DUN session,” he said during a press conference here at the PKR headquarters.

Elaborating, Anwar claimed that when Abdul Khalid was Chief Minister, he did not even have a meeting once with the members of the Committee on the Restructuring of Water in Selangor which was established by the PR Leadership Council earlier this year.

“The decision of the PR Leadership Council last year which was attended by all three leaders of PR was to join Abdul Khalid in providing insight and advice on the water agreement.

“The committee was represented by three parties, namely Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (PAS), Tony Pua (DAP) and Rafizi Ramli (PKR), however there has not even been one meeting during the time of the previous Chief Minister,” he added.
