CM: State Budget prioritises development, different from the Federal which is more towards management

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 Oct: The Selangor Budget 2015 will focus on measures to reduce management expenses by increasing development expenditure.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the step was taken because sustainable development will generate the people’s economic growth most effectively.

“We presented a budget which focuses on reducing operating expenses and increases development expenditure because development can increase economic growth and increase the people of Selangor’s economic growth, but we will announce the details next month,” said Azmin.

He said this when he was met right after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak presented the Budget 2015 at the House of Representatives yesterday.

This is contrary with the annual budget tabled by Najib yesterday which continues to provide high management costs compared to development provisions.

The management expenses was projected at RM223.4 billion (2014:RM217.7 billion) compared to development, RM50.5 billion (2014:RM46.5 billion).

When asked whether he will present a balanced budget, Mohamed Azmin reflected the possibility.

However, he explained that the state government is conducting a detailed study on the financial position and state development needs.

“We will look at the state’s financial performance which is strong and assuring, but at the same time, in our global economic condition, we are also looking at the need for expenditure in the form of development and not allowance or salary because this is the first step which I took; to cut the allowance and salary increase for the Chief Minister,” added Mohamed Azmin.
